Experienced yogis and novice stretchers alike will be invited to join Toowoomba’s yoga spectacular to support regional mental health.

Instructors from Toowoomba’s Antara Studios will host a 24-hour stretching extravaganza as part of their inaugural Mates on Mats event in support of local charity Momentum Mental Health.

“Hopefully the first of many,” Antara Studios owner Amy Pattison said.

“We know mental health is an ongoing thing for everybody. It’s really great to see this event get so much support in its first year.”

Participants will be invited to experience the benefits of yoga with fun themed sessions, including Family Friendly, Halloween and Glow in the Dark, running hourly.

“The impact of yoga on the body overall can be quite astounding,” Ms Pattison said.

“Yoga has been proven to support mental health, physical health and spiritual health.

“We’re running for 24 hours but there’s no expectation you need to physically participate the whole time, you can come and go as you please.”

Organisers aim to raise $100,000 for Momentum Mental Health which will directly support Toowoomba and Darling Downs residents struggling with their mental wellbeing.

“We are thrilled to be the beneficiary of such a creative fundraising effort,” chief executive Shirley-Anne Gardiner said.

“The support from participants and sponsors is crucial in allowing us to continue our mission of providing free, accessible mental health services to our community.”

Registration is open now on the Mates on Mats websiteand will be available to purchase for $50 at the gate.
