Toowoomba North MP Trevor Watts has laid out his second election promise of the 2024 campaign, saying a new LNP government would provide $1m towards school upgrades in his electorate.

Mr Watts, who is running to win a record-equalling fourth election in the previously-marginal seat, said the promised investment would impact schools in Wilsonton, Newtown and Highfields.

“(We will be) working with Council in Mount Lofty and East Toowoomba to explore options around the Stuart St and North St intersection and other traffic management issues,” he said.

“We will work with school communities and council to ensure we prioritise improvements like lights, or signage to manage increasing traffic in our city.

“This is the opportunity for a fresh start with the LNP’s Right Plan for Queensland’s Future.”

The promise comes after Mr Watts pledged the LNP would complete a business case on a second road to Highfields in a bid to ease congestion.

However, he could not confirm whether the business case would be actioned by a future Crisafulli-led government in the next term.

The LNP also revealed it would invest $15m into a new manufacturing hub for Toowoomba and Darling Downs if elected.

Mr Watts is facing off against Labor candidate James Green, Greens candidate Thom Roker, One Nation’s Sebastian Lund and Family First’s Kerri Hislop.
