A Gold Coast mum whose motorcycle was allegedly involved in a Coombabah crash resulting her leg being amputated has been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.

Labrador woman Ashley Paige Levy, 35, a stay-at-home mother of three, appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday, supported by her husband, for the first mention of her criminal charge.

No facts were placed onto the public record and she entered no plea.

The matter was adjourned to April 22. She was granted bail on her own undertaking.

According to court documents, the incident allegedly occurred at the corner of Marsupial Dr and Oxley Dr at Coombabah on August 16, 2023.

Officers from the Brisbane Forensic Crash Unit charged her on January 31 this year – nearly a year and a half after the offence was allegedly committed.

This masthead reported on the alleged crash and its aftermath extensively at the time.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection at about 9am to reports of a collision between a motorcycle and a car.

Mrs Levy’s husband Luke told this masthead his wife, who was travelling to visit her in-laws, suffered injuries including a shattered ankle and snapped upper fibula and tibia.

The Gold Coast University Hospital placed her in an induced coma in the intensive care unit, and although corrective surgery was initially deemed a success, doctors were forced to amputate her leg a few days later, he said.

Mr Levy, himself a motorcyclist before his wife’s life-changing crash, said he would swear off two-wheeled transport as a result of her injuries.

“There have been so many near-misses I’ve had on my bike, I’m just going to sell it now,” he said previously.

“I have been riding my whole life and I have seen a few crashes, but I have never seen anything like Ash’s.

“That was her final ride – that’s an ender.”

An online GoFundMe fundraiser raised at least $31,000 to support the family, it was previously reported.
