A Gold Coast mum-of-three who suffered life-changing injuries in a motorcycle crash has faced another setback in her long recovery.

Ashley Levy’s devastated husband Luke said his wife needed further surgery last week to remove more of her leg after it was amputated and was suffering from infection.

The Labrador mum has been in the Gold Coast University Hospital since mid-August after she was involved in a collision with a car on Oxley Dr, Coombabah.

She suffered a shattered ankle and a snapped upper fibula and tibia.

A good Samaritan rushed to Ashley’s side and stemmed the bleeding from her leg, which Luke credits with saving her life.

Ashley’s friend Tlea Chan launched an online fundraiser to help the family “during their darkest hours” with Luke being a sole trader and provider for the family.

“Can this really get any worse? Seriously,” Luke wrote on the fundraising page last week.

“So close to home never felt so far away.

“Can everyone give her some love and support please.

“I can’t imagine what my beautiful wife is experiencing in this situation.

“She is definitely braver than me, I’m a mess. I just can’t handle her being operated on anymore.”

More than $31,000 has been raised for the family.

EARLIER: ‘Her final ride’: Mum’s motorcycle crash tragedy

A devastated Gold Coast dad has revealed his wife lost her leg after suffering life-changing injuries in a major motorcycle crash.

Labrador mum-of-three Ashley Levy was riding her motorcycle to visit her in-laws when she was involved in a collision with a car on Oxley Drive, Coombabah, around 9am last Wednesday.

She was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital with a shattered ankle and a snapped upper fibula and tibia.

Mrs Levy’s husband Luke said the actions of a bystander saved her life.

The good Samaritan rushed to Ashley’s side and stemmed the bleeding from her leg.

“She used my wife’s phone to call me while I was at work. She didn’t really disclose who she was or anything like that,” Mr Levy said.

“The bystander said she managed to stop the bleeding because (Ashley) was bleeding out.

“So if it wasn’t for that lady, my wife probably wouldn’t be here right now.”

Ashley’s family realised the seriousness of her injuries when a doctor from the hospital told them she had a high chance of losing her leg.

She was placed in an induced coma in intensive care.

While corrective surgery was initially deemed a success, doctors were forced to amputate Ashley’s leg a few days later.

“She is still heavily sedated and she can’t talk,” Mr Levy said.

His cousin and friend of Ashley, Tlea Chan, launched an online fundraiser to help the family “during their darkest hours”.

“The road to recovery will undeniably be challenging, marked by uncertainty and difficult decisions,” Ms Chan wrote.

“As a sole trader, Luke must continue working to provide for his family.

“Unfortunately, with no income protection this adds an additional layer of strain, making it agonisingly difficult for him to be present for Ashley and their three boys while needing to manage his work commitments to ensure living costs can still be covered.”

More than $17,000 had been raised for the family.

Mr Levy said he was still in the dark about the cause and details of the crash.

He pleaded with drivers to look out for motorcycle riders on the roads.

“There have been so many near-misses I’ve had on my bike, I’m just going to sell it now,” the Labrador dad said.

“I have been riding my whole life and I have seen a few crashes, but I have never seen anything like Ash’s.

“That was her final ride – that’s an ender.”

Police were contacted for comment.

A spokeswoman said there was no update to provide and investigations were continuing.

At the time of writing, 52 motorcycle riders had lost their lives on Queensland roads so far this year.

To date, 2023 has been deadliest year for motorbike riders in the past five years.
