Liz Jarrett has worked in some of the busiest cosmetic nursing clinics in Queensland, where she would work on nearly 20 clients a day.
Now the aesthetic nurse has traded the fast-paced in-and-out injectables industry to open her own clinic inside a beautifully-renovated East Toowoomba home.
Ms Jarrett, who grew up in Kingaroy but now calls Toowoomba home, has more than a decade of nursing experience in both the aged care and cosmetic sectors.
After cutting her teeth in major Brisbane injectables businesses, she noticed several ways she wanted to service clients differently in her own venture The Conscious Nurse.
“Really it’s about stepping away from fast-paced businesses, where it was quantity over quality,” Ms Jarrett said.
“I was as safe as I could be, but I wanted to offer a slower-paced experience, whereas your clinics in Brisbane is very fast-paced — I was sometimes doing 19 clients a day.
“I always made sure that I had gaps in between people and I worked long hours, but that safety issue came up.
“I had a lot of experience and knew my boundaries but others would do whatever the client wanted.”
Ms Jarrett said The Conscious Nurse, which specialises in lip fillers, anti-wrinkle procedures and facial fillers, would aim for a more natural look.
“I wanted to offer a slower-paced experience (because) injectables have risks, they are a medical procedure and that’s what I go through with patients,” she said.
“It’s a really holistic approach to aesthetics.
“I find these things can get a bad wrap because some people are pushing it too far and not being mindful.”
The clinic is based inside a former doctor’s surgery on the corner of Herries and Mackenzie Streets in East Toowoomba, which required significant renovations.
“The owner said someone offered her a price for the land but she thought the property was beautiful,” Ms Jarrett said.
“It needed a lot of work, it was painted blue and green and carpeted and a little old-school but the bones of the property were stunning.
“The owner did the outside, she painted it and put in new AC, and my partner and I did the inside (like) stripping the carpets, installing new chandeliers, reception desks, painting the walls and putting new cabinets in.”
The property was leased by LJ Hooker’s Justin Eastwell.
