The Royal Hotel
15/20
Contemporary$$
The Royal ratchets pub food up a notch - a couple of notches in fact. The menu is an eclectic mix ranging from organic chicken livers sauteed in brandy cream to shepherd's pie to lobster, soft-shell crab and Vietnamese spring rolls. The pasta is handmade and the mashed potato fluffy as. Lobster is good value but it's a waste to smother it in a sauce more parmigiana than espanol, as it was described. But it's a good pub with above average food, a lovely view of Sassafras Gully from the back verandah, good vegetarian choices and generous portions.
