We're pleased to see this iconic pub reopen its doors after a $3-million makeover. There's still a nod to the past in the heritage-listed facade and iron verandah; the hotel was once a racing-industry stopover: 10 Melbourne Cup winners, including Phar Lap, have stayed in the stables. There's a big dining area, a beer garden, courtyard and kids' playroom. An extensive menu offers grills, seafood, pasta and signature dishes. The veal medallion and Moroccan chicken are good, and if you're really hungry there's a monster chicken parma for $24.90. The Cafe Bar is open all day. Check out the cupcakes; they are delicious.
