New Dragon BBQ House
Chinese
This surprising albeit unprepossessing place in the Chinese quarter of a mainly Turkish/Arabic suburb could win the award for ‘plainest restaurant in Sydney’. The surprise is, as you’d hope, seriously good food and pleasant, helpful service. A mixed meats plate of roast duck and barbecued pork sees duck emerge as the winning choice. Salt-and-pepper eggplant is encased in the lightest, crispest batter, while a special of ‘fish meat and egg yolk steams the beancurd’ (that’s steamed fish, egg yolk and beancurd) is another mouth-watering surprise. Well worth a detour from the kebab joints down the road.
