Wah Kee
Chinese
You could easily walk right past Wah Kee with its fluorescent lighting and office carpeting, stuck between takeaway joints and halal butchers. But don't. This is a little ripper. Everything bar the dim sims is home-made- and you can taste it. The curry puffs are fragrant, and the sesame prawn toast is all succulent prawn meat tucked into a slender shell. Try the tender Cantonese beef with emerald broccoli, the Nonya beancurd- boxy slabs of tofu topped with spicy julienned vegetables- or the char kwai teow, which matches smoky flavours with the sweet snap of fried shallots. Service is homely and the banquets (with Chinese, Malaysian and vegetarian options) are cracking value.
