Short Round
Cafe
Cafes are cropping up on this Thornbury strip like there’s something in the water, but hit Short Round and you hit pay dirt. The gorgeous, light- and plant-filled fitout is spacious and orderly - a breath of fresh air. There’s excellent coffee (from Proud Mary) and a creative yet comforting all-day brunch menu. Avocado on toast gets a zesty makeover with charred sweetcorn, onion, chilli and lime; poached eggs prop with just-shelled peas and crisp sage in a puddle of brown butter. Lunch might be a ploughman-style platter, or seared tuna with raw veg and wasabi aioli. And from the cabinet, house-made carrot, corn and manchego loaf, or a choc hazelnut tart.
