The Hub House Diner
Contemporary$$
It’s a little mirage-like, this trendy modern space at a busy intersection in a suburb set but yet to be gentrified. Light, eggy brekkies and lunches transition into nights with a deep-fried focus: popcorn chicken, crisp fried chicken wings with fluoro-red chilli sauce, onion rings, and Hulk fist-like battered zucchini fritters. Burgers run day and night, served on wooden boards alongside hot, salty chips. The Hub beef burger is sweet with ketchup and zippy with pickled gherkin, but could do with more American Jack cheese. Service is smart and coffee good. Finish with an affogato board: ice-cream, coffee, honeycomb and pistachio.
