Feast @ McVitty
13/20
Contemporary$$
Framed by the long, high windows behind the McVitty winery, the view from the cellar-door dining room is of grapevines, olive trees and the glorious rolling Australian landscape, about 10 kilometres south-west of Mittagong. You might even spy the occasional eagle soaring overhead. A menu that's in tune with the simplicity of the setting includes seared scallops on cauliflower cream topped with a crunchy mix of prosciutto, herbs and garlic crumbs. Quality ingredients shine in a salad of prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella, fresh figs and rocket, dressed with a tangy orange glaze. A crisp wonton stack is interleaved with smoked rainbow trout, avocado and aioli, drizzled with Asian dressing and sprinkled with crisp pork crackling, looking as good as it tastes. Grilled barramundi fillet nestles prettily in a creamy basil and lemon risotto, surrounded by fresh asparagus and broad beans. Limoncello semifreddo with gingered strawberries completes the sense of relaxed and friendly elegance.
