Darband

Middle Eastern$$

An unassuming restaurant on the far side of the tracks in Auburn exhibits old paintings and photos of Tehran alongside plain tables and chairs. But once the food arrives it magically becomes a Persian palace of rice. The baghali polo is a tender saffron-infused lamb shank accompanied by a huge mound of dill-flecked rice with broad beans. Don’t miss the Darband special: saffron rice with skewers of smoky chicken, juicy lamb mince and a mouth-watering lamb backstrap marinated in onion. Top side dish is fried eggplant. Replace dessert with a jug of homemade yoghurt drink.
