Bar Italia
Italian
This cafe is well-known for excellent gelato served by prima donna (prima don?) waiters. Late at night, the queue snakes out the door as canny diners come here for dessert and coffee, after mains elsewhere. Perennial favourites such as hazelnut, zabaglione and pistachio gelato sit well beside upstarts like Toblerone and wildberry. The decor takes its cue from a 1972 suburban back garden with plastic chairs and wobbly tables on which to eat decent penne arrabbiata or chicken cacciatore. Dine out back in Nonna's courtyard or Papa's shed. House-blend Vittoria coffee comes with no soy, no skim, no smile. Pay cash or NO SOUP FOR YOU!
