Uncle Bart

Contemporary$$

This tiny seaside cafe brings a touch of the Mediterranean to the south-east suburbs of Melbourne. A spanakopita for breakfast, perhaps; a salad of torn spinach, warm quinoa, roasted red peppers, flaked tuna and salty feta for lunch. Excellent sweets, the best of which are made in-house, include kourabiedes (almond shortbread) whose icing sugar coating will make a delicious mess of your shirt. Five Senses espresso is tops but regulars know to head straight for the Greek coffee - a baby-blue espresso cup brimming with sweet, thick brew. Service is cheerful but minimal at this order-at-the-counter cafe.
