The Little Ox
Contemporary$$
Little Ox is a white, light-filled corridor of a cafe, the kind of uncluttered, clean and fresh space that looks designed for the day, rather than the hard-working long-haul operation that it is. It's most heavily trafficked at breakfast (served all day) when there are weekend wait-lists. The interesting menu might include kernel-rich corn fritters with leg ham and avocado; strips of smoked salmon tartare dotted with capers alongside a fat roesti and beetroot relish, all crowned with a poached egg; and banana and blueberries on soft buttermilk pancakes. Lunch is straighter, maybe a risotto or pasta. Unhurried service and an electronic ordering system keep the Ox humming.
