Mies Coffee Bar
Contemporary
Mies might share the Hudsons Road strip with a rock-star cafe neighbour, but the crew here have built their own reputation for coffee excellence, with food playing a supporting role. In a humble space dedicated to modernist architect Mies van der Rohe, owner/barista Paul Newcomen concocts quality brews from St Ali beans. The house blend is Cult of Done; it's bright and sharp in a short black ($2.50), while with milk ($3.40) it takes on Cherry Ripe characteristics with a berry-fruit flavour and chocolatey finish. A weekly-changing single origin is offered, and pourover and siphon brews are on the menu now, too.
