Two people, including a seven-year-old girl, have died on NT roads in two separate fatal crashes over the weekend.

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl was among two people who died in a day of carnage on Territory roads that left first responders utterly devastated.

The two horror crashes happened within 18 hours of each other on Sunday.

The first was a single-vehicle crash that occurred on a dirt road about 160km west of Alice Springs in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police believe the driver lost control on a bend in the road and crashed about 6km north of Gary Junction Road.

A 39-year-old woman, who was one of the five people in the vehicle, tragically died at the scene.

The 44-year-old male driver and three children, aged 9, 10 and 16, were transported to a local health clinic and then on to Alice Springs Hospital.

NT Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.

A seven-year-old girl was killed in a separate single-vehicle crash about 6pm the same day.

Initial reports suggest the vehicle she was in left the road and hit a tree on Oenpelli Road about 82km west of Maningrida in West Arnhem.

Emergency services attended the scene along with police, but sadly the seven-year-old could not be saved.

She had been travelling with two women, aged 26 and 42, and a five-year-old child.

They were rushed to a health clinic at Maningrida before being transported by CareFlight to Royal Darwin Hospital.

An NT Health spokesman confirmed the trio were all in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Major Crash Investigation Unit are travelling to the location to investigate the crash.

Territory Duty Superintendent John Atkin said all fatal crashes were devastating but particularly when they might have been avoided.

“We urge all road users to drive to the conditions and remember to avoid the fatal five: speeding, drink and drug driving, inattention, not wearing a seatbelt and driving while tired,” he said.

For both deaths, reports will be prepared for the coroner.

They come a week after an NT dad and his teenage son died in a single-vehicle crash on the Barkly Highway.

The NT road toll now stands at 19.
