Man allegedly punches police officer, attempts to punch a second during arrest in Alice Springs
A 25-year-old man is in police custody after he allegedly assaulted two police officers as they tried to arrest him overnight.

A MAN has allegedly assaulted two police officers as they tried to arrest him in Alice Springs overnight.
NT Police Southern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Vicki Koum said shortly before 2am on Tuesday, two police officers had attended a property in The Gap in response to an alleged domestic violence incident.
“Upon attending, a male pushed through the doors and into a police member,” she said.
“He then resisted police and assaulted them, including punching and elbowing one member, and trying to punch another member.

“He continued to resist, but police gained control of (him) and he was arrested.”
Snr Sgt Koum said the affected police officers were not seriously injured, however one had attended Alice Springs Hospital as a precaution.
“Fortunately there were no serious injuries, however it is disappointing to see another example of our members being assaulted while carrying out their duties,” she said.

The 25-year-old alleged offender is in police custody and is expected to be charged with offences relating to domestic violence and resisting and assaulting police.
