A MAN driving through Alice Springs while holding a mattress to the roof of the car with his hands has been slapped with a number of fines.
The 29-year-old man was also driving with a child unrestrained in the car.
The bizarre scene was spotted by police at the man drove down Grevillea Dr around 4pm on Friday in a sliver Commodore.
Police have taken the liberty of covering up the driver’s number plate and replacing it with the word ‘sleepy’ – an apt rego for a man driving with a mattress on the roof.

The driver was issued with traffic infringements for driving with an unsecured load, driving with a child without a seatbelt, failing to produce a licence, and allowing a part of the body to extend from the vehicle.

The adult passenger also received a ticket for allowing a part of the body to extend from the vehicle.
Police in a statement on Facebook urged motorists transporting goods to ensure they are appropriately secured so they don’t come off and endanger other road users.
