Karama shops left to clean up mess after overnight crime spree

Police have charged a man for allegedly damaging the windows and doors of several shops in Karama overnight.

POLICE have charged a man for allegedly smashing the windows and doors of several shops in Karama overnight.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Len Turner said about 11.30pm yesterday, CCTV cameras at the Karama shopping complex captured a man kicking and damaging the windows and doors of a number of businesses.

“Our CCTV operators kept monitoring him while police were attending, and led police to the (alleged) offender,” he said.

“He was arrested and taken into custody.”

“At least three businesses we know of have fallen victim to his actions.”

The Karama Shopping Plaza, the Karama Tavern and Domino’s Pizza are among the premises that were damaged.

Snr Sgt Turner said the man had injured himself while kicking a glass door, and had been taken to hospital.

He said police had served the 23-year-old man with a notice to appear on the charge of criminal damage.
