POLICE have charged one youth and are searching for another after the pair allegedly robbed a sex shop at machete-point and attempted to carjack a woman in Darwin last night.

NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Len Turner said that just before 8pm, two juvenile males – both with their faces covered – entered the Sexyland store in Stuart Park.

He said one of the boys had allegedly been armed with a machete.

“The sole staff member there was threatened with the machete, however she managed to lock herself inside a rear room,” he said.

“The offenders attempted to open up the cash register, and at that time another worker arrived at the store and was also threatened by the offenders.

“The offenders left the store soon after, (but) not before stealing a mobile phone..”

Sgt Turner said police also believed the pair had been involved in a second incident shortly afterwards.

“It is believed these offenders were involved in a second incident where, about five minutes later, two males attempted to forcibly enter a vehicle that had stopped at the Westralia Street traffic lights, at the intersection with Stuart Highway, just across from Sexyland,” he said.

“Their attempts were unsuccessful when the driver drove off.”

Sgt Turner said multiple police units had attended the scene.

He said officers had arrested one of the alleged offenders, a 14-year-old boy.

The boy was charged with one count of robbery today.

NT Police were still searching for the other offender this evening.
