THE pandemic has hit businesses hard this year, but the team behind Alice Springs Brewing Co feel things are looking up and have been inspired to open and expand two new businesses in the past month.
Owners have unveiled a new cocktail lounge at Monte’s Lounge and created a new restuarant behind the brewery - the Hideout at Star of Alice, a new concept on the existing space which was popular for functions.
Described as a mix between a beer garden and a relaxed sports bar, manager Bek Ogden said the Hideout was a new concept for the outlet which capitalised on the strengths of the venue including its existing function business, while bringing a fantastic food and beverage product driven by the brewery team.
She said it was a “green oasis to hide from the hustle bustle of town”.
“We wanted someplace where people could kind of escape the dramas of Alice Springs town, and have a place where they could bring their kids,” Bek said.
“We’ve got a nice garden area at the back where kids can run around and parents can feel like they can have a nice Sunday sesh.”

The Hideout side of the brewery is less focussed on craft beer and offers more traditional Australian drinking styles, with brews like Carlton Draught and Great Northern on tap.
“It’s all those things that people really love and that they might find a bit daunting having craft beers, so we have to kind of push that boundary just a little bit slower,” Bek said.
“This side is a little bit less structured a little bit more relaxed, with a lot more pub meals coming out.
“But, that being said the food is done so well that it really has that sense that it’s made with love.”
The Hideout offers a menu for families and children including burgers, parmy’s, share boards, pizzas, and other pub-style eats.
“This slide is more about enjoying a shared place, enjoying the sun, getting out and sitting on the blankets in the garden. There’s a TV inside where we play live sports.
“We saw potential for this to become something where people can kind of escape and feel like they’re in a different kind of oasis. There’s few places in Alice where you have so much green and it helps that it’s enclosed so you can feel it’s safe and secure.”
Hideout is open Thursday and Friday from 4pm-11pm and Saturdays 12pm-11pm.
