A NEW cafe in Tennant Creek has opened its doors with a focus on “amazing tucker that brings community together”.
The Jajjikari Café, located at Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Cultural Centre, is 100 per cent Indigenous owned.
The centre is there to educate, to share Warumungu culture, and for young ones to maintain their culture.
The team sources its coffee straight from Timor-Leste-Wild Timor, which is farmed by Indigenous farmers.
Owners said on Facebook that the cafe “provides high quality A La Carte food” and can cater for events.
“The tucker we serve has Aboriginal herbs and spices and fresh Tennant Creek grown vegetables.
“We are committed to training Indigenous Australian’s with a passion for the hospitality industry, and strive for continuous improvement and growth.”
Patrons can enjoy sauted whole portbello mushroom filled with smashed avo, dried finger lime peel topped with ricotta cheese and served with grilled sour dough, kangaroo rice paper rolls, lemon myrtle carbonara, wattle seed poffertjes, bruschetta and forrest berry herbs.
The cafe is pen Tuesday to Saturday, 8am-2pm, at 13 Paterson Street.
