TENNANT Creek’s newest fitness studio aims to promote boxing as a safe, healthy and socially acceptable sport within the community.
Head coach Kori West said the Tennant Creek Boxing Academy was about building character, gaining skills and staying healthy.

He said it had been an idea before they established a studio and started classes late August.
“We essentially realised we have a bunch of fellas here with unique skills and they’d make an awesome boxing club so we decided to band together and do something with it,” Mr West said.
The men are trained in kickboxing and jiu jitsu.
Mr West said the community and Barkly council had been very supportive.
“We’ve had the high school donating stuff. There’s been incredible support from the community,” he said.
“We have juniors class for under 18s and a women’s class and seniors class. The seniors class is for people who want to be competitive and learn more advanced skills.”
