BOM forecaster Sally Cutter said the wetter conditions would continue today before clearing off mid week, when warmer temperatures and drier air was on its way.
“Tropical moisture has been brought down from the western parts of the NT ahead of a trough from Western Australia, which is what’s causing showers and storms, particularly around the eastern Lasseter’s and Western Simpson districts,” Ms Cutter said.
“This will continue today and clear off from Wednesday.”
As the skies clear, the mercury is set to rise with the hottest temperature since winter forecast for Friday with a predicted maximum of 40C.
Tomorrow’s maximum is forecast at 37C and 39C on Thursday.
BOM said on Twitter that parts of the NT had already received more than double their average October rainfall.
A seven day total rainfall forecast from October 18 to 24 predicted up to 25mm of rain across the southern half of the Territory.
