Drone footage shows police track and capture three suspects in alleged hit-and-run

INCREDIBLE drone footage shows the moment that police track and capture three people suspected of being in an allegedly stolen vehicle when it ran a red light and critically injured a motorcyclist.

The 47-year-old male motorcyclist suffered life threatening injuries in the crash at the Larapinta Dr intersection in Alice Springs about 10pm on Thursday night.

He was airlifted to Royal Adelaide Hospital on Friday and remains in a critical condition.

The drone footage shows police chasing three of the suspected five occupants of the allegedly stolen Subaru Forester on foot in the dark of night through backyards, fields, building courtyards and over fences.

One of the suspects is trapped against a fence and caught early in the chase but the other two continue to run and hide from their pursuers.

Eventually an officer and his police dog catch up to the two laying down and hiding in the dark and they are quickly taken into custody by several pursuing officers who descend on the scene.

NT Police allege the driver of the Subaru ran a red light at the Larapinta Dr intersection, causing the serious crash, before driving off from the scene.

Officers were able to track the car using the drone and CCTV.

They were eventually able to deploy tyre deflation devices, stopping the car on Grevillia Dr.

The five suspected occupants of the stolen vehicle then fled on foot with police taking chase, before catching three of them, as shone in the drone footage.

Police have now arrested and charged four people in total — aged from 13- to 19-years-old — in connection with the incident.

Those caught, as shown in the drone footage, were a 19-year-old man, and two male youths aged 16- and 13-years-old.

A fourth person, a 15-year-old male, was identified and arrested by detectives from the Alice Springs Criminal Investigation Branch on Friday night.
