Darwin bar staff get ready for the Top End lockdown to lift at 12 noon

PEE Wee’s at the Point has won Restaurant of the Year at the 2022 Hospitality NT-Australian Liquor Marketers Gold Plate Awards at Darwin’s Festival Park on Monday night.

Pee Wee’s, a previous gold plate winner, was found by Gold Plate judges it still delivered quality food and service at a world-class location.

Judges were unable to make a clear call on the Territory’s Chef of the Year, with Fiona Weir from PepperBerry Restaurant and Fusang Sherpa from Darwin Trailer Boat Club sharing the honour.

Ella by Minoli won the Gold Plate Award for Best New Establishment.

Hanky Panky Lounge won Best Bar Food, Besser Kitchen and Brew Bar won Best Burger, Stonehouse Wine Bar & Kitchen’s Paul Dhiver won the Service Excellence Award, Phat Mango by Martin the Chef won Best Seafood Restaurant and Charlie’s of Darwin won the Minister’s award for sustainability.

About 500 guests attended the biggest Gold Plate event in the award’s 17-year history.

There were 330 nominations received from 70 hospitality businesses across the Territory.

Hospitality NT chief executive Alex Bruce congratulated winners.

“The evening was fun and festive and it was great to see hard working venues and their teams enjoying a well-earned night off,” Mr Bruce said.

“Our local industry is chock-a-block full of passionate, driven venues and their staff ensuring we will continue to reach new heights in Territory dining and hospitality.”
