A 1920s-THEMED cocktail lounge that will serve up drinks to rival those of Sydney and Melbourne’s small laneway bars has been proposed for the Darwin CBD.
Hanky Panky Lounge, an initiative of Hot Tamale’s long-term manager Anneliese Grazioli with support from owners David and Kellie Robinson, is expected to open at 3/32 Mitchell St later this year, subject to approvals.
The “up-market” bar will have a cocktails focus but will also feature top-shelf wines, champagnes and spirits, and is expected to seat 85-90 people.
A small bar liquor application for the business was lodged with the NT Director of Liquor Licensing this week.

Award-winning mixologist Ms Grazioli, who is Darwin born and raised, said she was excited about the prospect of launching a sophisticated small bar in her home city.
“I have been part of the national and international cocktail industry for the past four years … and have travelled nationally and internationally to visit some of the world’s best cocktail bars,” she said.
“I want to use my experience and knowledge from what I’ve seen around the world and Australia and bring one of those world-class bars to Darwin.”
Ms Grazioli said while there were already some great small bars in Darwin, Hanky Panky Lounge would have a different look and atmosphere to most.
“What we want to do is provide a bit of escapism,” she said.
“There are no windows and there’s a hidden door, and when you walk through it you could be anywhere in the world.”
“It will also have a very art deco, 1920s look.
“There’ll be plenty of booths, it will be very dark and there’ll be beautiful lighting.”
The bar is expected to operate from 3pm to 2am Monday to Thursday and midday to 2am Friday to Sunday.
