A heavily tattooed Aussie was reportedly arrested in Bali for allegedly “creating an uncomfortable atmosphere” on the streets of the tourist hot spot.

Local media reports Queensland man Mark Paul Barry had drawn the ire of residents in Kuta and Legian for wearing little clothing and allegedly being “heavily intoxicated”.

Kuta Police arrested him on October 10, after receiving reports the 54-year-old was walking around in boxing shorts and shouting incoherently, Detik Bali reports.

“We tried to communicate, but he didn’t connect, and just babbled,” a police officer said, according to news site Bali Prawara.

“So we took him to Prof. Ngoerah Hospital to get medical treatment, because his behaviour was like someone who was depressed.”

Pictures posted to social media show Mr Barry lying on his side near the entrance to a hotel, and police officers speaking with him.

Detik Bali also reports police had returned Mr Barry to his hotel the day before his arrest, after receiving complaints he was drunk and stopping motorcyclists.

“He was walking around the Legian area without a shirt and only wearing shorts,” the publication reported.

Local police believe the Queensland man was holidaying alone.

“The hospital is now checking the condition of this foreigner,” an officer reportedly said last week.

“After that, the hospital will contact the consulate and Immigration in Bali.”

Mr Barry has also made the news in his homeland, having pleaded guilty to offences including stalking, assault occasioning bodily harm – domestic violence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, fraud and breaching bail last year.

Pine Rivers Magistrates Court heard in March 2023 that he had enlisted people to put a bounty on the head of a person over a property dispute.

In a separate incident, the court heard he made death threats to a person in a suburban street by making gun gestures to their head and saying “you’re f***ing dead”.

Magistrate Annette Hennessy sentenced him to 15 months in prison, but he was released on parole having served nearly 200 days in custody.

In 2020, another Queensland court heard Mr Barry had a 22-page criminal record.
