Caramilk chocolate bars selling on eBay for hugely inflated prices

Cadbury’s beloved Caramilk bars are being listed on eBay for hugely inflated prices, as shoppers struggle to find the bars in supermarkets.

Cadbury Caramilk bars are being listed on online auction site eBay for hugely inflated prices after the beloved chocolate bar was returned to Aussie stores last month due to consumer demand.

The bar retails for $4.80 in Australia and is currently listed on sale at Woolworths for $3.

But shoppers have complained of struggling to find the hugely popular bars in stock, saying they are routinely sold out at local stores.

Meanwhile, online auction site eBay is flooded with listings of the bar for sale at wildly inflated prices, with opportunistic sellers using their listings to warn chocolate fans that the bar could soon be gone forever.

“When it’s gone it’s gone!!!” one listing warned, advertising 20 bars of Caramilk for the inflated price of $999.00 — a whopping $903.00 more than the retail price.

While buyers aren’t necessarily paying hundreds for a bar, dozens of “sold” listings on the auction site show fans of Caramilk have been happy to pay hugely inflated prices for the limited-release bar.

Buyers haven’t fallen for the most exorbitant Caramilk listings. They are, however, coughing up hefty amounts for the bars, with dozens of sold listings on the auction site showing buyers have paid between $10 and $23 for individual bars of Caramilk.

The limited-release flavour, originally rolled out in 2018, was re-released in September this year after Cadbury said it had listened to consumers who overwhelmingly loved the golden bar.

“We’ve listened to the tens of thousands of Aussies asking us to bring Cadbury Caramilk back,” Cadbury marketing manager Katrina Watson said.

“We couldn’t ignore their passion for our golden chocolate block, so we’re proud to be bringing it back.”

Caramilk was formerly part of the brand’s Australian and New Zealand product line-up but was discontinued in 1994.

It’s not the first time consumers have used the rare golden bar for profit. The bar was stripped from shelves and put on eBay by opportunistic sellers during its short run in 2018. Sellers at the time asked for up to 10 times the recommended retail price.
