This year’s The Block ‘villain’ Sharon Johal has branded the 2022 season “a flop”, adding the renovation series has become the “Danny Wallis show”.

Sharon and her husband, Ankur Dogra, were one of the two couples whose country Victoria homes were passed in on Sunday night’s underwhelming finale.

The much anticipated auction day proved to be a disaster across the board, with Tom and Sarah-Jane making a profit of just $20,000, as winners Omar and Oz took home a record profit of $1.6 million.

Offering her explanation in an interview with Herald Sun, the former Neighbours actress levelled the blame at Nine producers for going forward with the tree change idea.

“I think a lot of people thought being the biggest Block, the tree change idea might have come a year too late,” Sharon told the publication.

“It’s just a shame it was a flop. You go into these things knowing that potentially this could be an outcome for so many of us, but no one could have imagined what happened and it’s a bad taste for everyone who’s worked so hard.

“This was definitely the hardest Block for everyone to put on and navigate.

“It was clear taking on The Block with the magnitude of this size was probably not going to be a successful auction. They need to take it back to basics.”

She added: “The Block is really the Danny Wallis show, if there was no Danny Wallis, none of those houses would have sold.”

The couple had a rocky season, and are hoping to make a decent profit after their home was passed in.

The eccentric multi-millionaire bought all three homes that sold on auction day, with the two houses he didn’t buy being passed in.

Last year, Wallis bought Mitch and Mark’s Block-winning home as well as Tanya and Vito’s and Kirsty and Jesse’s, for a combined total of $12.2 million, and in the 2020 season he bought three apartments for just under $12 million.

Meanwhile, Sharon and Ankur are in negotiations to sell their home in an attempt to make a profit, with Sharon revealing there was lucrative interest in the property.

“We’re still selling it and there were people who were willing to bid up to $5 million for our house,’’ she said. Omar and Oz were the only contestants who managed to hit that figure.

Sharon and Ankur quickly entrenched themselves as this year’s “villains” as they were shown clashing with their builders, complaining they wished they’d never signed up for the show, and even sneaking off-site together to nap in their car.
