Kyle Sandilands recalls his regret over racy question in Yoko Ono interview

Kyle Sandilands has long been known for shocking his listeners, but there’s one celebrity interview sex quip he wishes he’d kept to himself.

Shock jock Kyle Sandilands has had his fair share of jaw-dropping radio moments, but there’s one celebrity interview that haunts him to this day.

In a replay of The Kyle & Jackie O Show aired on Wednesday, the 50-year-old revealed he walked away cringing from a live chat with renowned artist and widow of John Lennon, Yoko Ono.

Yoko was married to the Beatle from 1969 until he was assassinated in 1980, with Kyle’s co-host Jackie hoping to angle their interview towards her cherished memories of the beloved music icon.

But no-shame radio personality Kyle recalled sullying Jackie’s sweet question by butting in with a sex joke.

Jackie, 46, had asked Yoko to share her “favourite memory” of Lennon, prompting Kyle to chime in, “Not the sex!”

Taking it in her stride, however, the 88-year-old quipped: “You mean you have to cut out the sex? I don’t think John’s going to like that.”

Despite Yoko’s lighthearted response, Kyle said he wished he’d kept his mouth shut.

“What’s wrong with me when you’ve asked such a gentle, touching, historical question? What’s wrong with me?” he asked Jackie, going on to describe himself as “twisted”.

“I’ve been twisted my whole life. This isn’t a new thing. I’ve been doing that forever.”

Kyle is often quick to hurl intimate questions at interview guests on his and Jackie’s record-smashing breakfast show.

Just last month, he even stumped NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian by probing into her love life.

“Have you taken another lover yet?” Kyle asked Ms Berejiklian.

The Premier responded “Oh please …” before asking Jackie: “Is he always like this with all the guests?”

“Can we just move onto matters of state now?” she continued.

Kyle’s obsession with sex-related content knows no bounds, having succeeded in launching a ‘Most Beautiful Penis Pageant’ on the show this year, which he credits to the show’s recent ratings bonanza.
