Lisa Wilkinson has recalled her very first interview with Kim Kardashian 10 years ago – revealing a hilarious behind-the-scenes titbit.

Project host Lisa Wilkinson has revealed she once spent a chunk of her work day with her fly undone.

But in a far less relatable twist, her wardrobe malfunction happened live on national television, while she was interviewing reality TV royalty Kim Kardashian, no less.

Taking to Instagram today off the back of the news Keeping Up With The Kardashians will wrap up after its 20th season, Wilkinson shared footage of her first ever chat with the star on the Today show in 2010.

She revealed that during an ad break, Kardashian alerted her to her open zipper – adding that she is “forever grateful” for the pick-up.

“2010 throwback to Kim Kardashian,” the former Channel 9 star wrote.

“With news this week that Keeping Up With The Kardashians will be no more, I thought a few of you might get a giggle out of this throwback interview on the Today show.

“It was the first time I’d interviewed her, and I will be forever grateful that just before we came back from the break Kim pointed out that I might want to do my fly up,” she wrote, along with the embarrassed emoji.

She added: “It’s also a reminder of how much things have changed for her (and me) over the last decade.

“One thing I know for sure: my shoulder pad game that day was STRONG!!!”

The Project star is certainly not wrong about how times have changed for both women.

Nine years later, in her new role with the Ten Network, Wilkinson interviewed Kardashian – who had exploded in fame from the show’s beginnings – in a far more intimate setting.

She wore a skirt this time around, so it’s safe to assume history did not repeat itself.

During the exclusive wide-ranging interview for The Sunday Project, which airedin November last year, Wilkinson – who flew to LA for the cosy one-on-one chat – asked a dressing gown-clad Kardashian whether she felt sympathy for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

“I’m trying to work out who is the most famous family in the world,” Wilkinson began. “I think it sat as a toss-up between the British royals and the Kardashians,” she said as the 39-year-old businesswoman laughed.

“I’m wondering if you feel some sympathy for what Harry and Meghan are going through?”

“I think everyone has their own journey,” Kardashian replied. “I think their journey is extremely personal, with – you know, what his mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi.

“I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them. But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, what I would want for them is just the safest place.

“I can definitely empathise with their – empathise with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it.”

This was just a few months before the couple announced they were stepping back from their roles as senior royals.

Elsewhere in the interview, the mum-of-four spoke about raising her children, her famous family, her relationship with the White House, that risque Met Gala dress and her surprise career move announced in 2019 – following in her father Robert’s footsteps to become a lawyer.

Yesterday, Kim Kardashian publicly announced she and her family have made the “difficult decision” to say goodbye to the reality show that made them household names.

“It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the reality star and beauty mogul announced on Instagram, following months of intense scrutiny about her turbulent marriage to the rapper-turned-Presidential hopeful.

“After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children.

“We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way.”

Kardashian thanked the “thousands of individuals and businesses that have been a part of this experience,” and revealed the final season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians would air early next year. The latest season, filmed during the coronavirus pandemic, will hit Binge on September 18.

The star – who was best known as Paris Hilton’s assistant when she made her foray into reality TV with occasional cameos on The Simple Life – acknowledged just how much KUWTK had changed her family’s lives.

“Without Keeping Up with The Kardashians, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who has watched and supported me and my family these past 14 incredible years,” she wrote.

“This show made us who we are and I will be forever in debt to everyone who played a role in shaping our careers and changing our lives forever.”

The family’s surprise decision to ditch the reality show that made them stars came after increased attention on the tumultuous relationship between Kim and Kanye.

The rapper is continuing his bizarre bid to run for President during the November US elections, and in July slammed his wife and her family on social media, accusing Kim and Kris Jenner of trying to “lock him up”.

Keeping Up With the Kardashians Season 19 premieres Friday, September 18 – same day as the U.S. Watch on E! at 10am and 8.30pm on Foxtel or Fetch.
