Kim Kardashian has opened up about her feelings towards Meghan Markle and Prince Harry as they deal with the pressures of an intense media spotlight while struggling to find their feet as new parents.

The royal couple, who battle damaging daily headlines and a huge amount of criticism for refusing to spend Christmas at Sandringham, flying by private jets and dropping personal truth bombs in a doco about their trip to South Africa, have taken the bold step of initiating court action against two British tabloids.

While Meghan has – perhaps unfairly – attracted plenty of haters over the last year amid whispers she is behind a royal rift between Harry and Prince William, it’s clear Kim K, who has 152 million followers on Instagram, is not one of them.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Project, host Lisa Wilkinson – who flew to LA for the cosy one-on-one chat – asked a dressing gown-clad Kardashian whether she felt sympathy for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“I’m trying to work out who is the most famous family in the world,” Wilkinson begins. “I think it sat as a toss-up between the British royals and the Kardashians,” she says as the 39-year-old businesswoman laughs.

“I’m wondering if you feel some sympathy for what Harry and Meghan are going through?”

“I think everyone has their own journey,” Kardashian replies. “I think their journey is extremely personal, with – you know, what his mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi.

“I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them. But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, what I would want for them is just the safest place.

“I can definitely empathise with their – empathise with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the mum-of-four talks about raising her children, her famous family, her relationship with the White House, that risque Met Gala dress and her latest career move – following in her father Robert’s footsteps to become a lawyer.

Kardashian has been campaigning for some time for prison reform in the United States and famously met with US President Donald Trump and successfully campaigned for the release of Alice Johnson, a grandmother serving a life sentence for drug charges.

“So far I think it is like 34 people I have helped now release,” Kim told Wilkinson.

While she didn’t go as far as to say she has the President on “speed dial”, she added, “I have a good relationship with the White House.

“They have been extremely helpful in prison reform and justice reform, and that’s been an amazing transformation, of seeing – at the beginning of the presidency, maybe (Mr Trump) wasn’t so open to the idea of any prison reform, and completely changing and meeting a lot of amazing people on the way and having a change of heart has been a beautiful journey for me to watch as well.”

The segment also revealed Kardashian will be appearing on our screens in a different capacity — promoting ads for Uber Eats with Australia’s favourite netballer Sharon Strzelecki (aka Magda Szubanski from Kath & Kim).

During the exclusive interview, which comes as the famous reality star spruiks her new fragrance in Australia, stocking it exclusively with Myer, Wilkinson asks her to address her frosty argument on Keeping Up With The Kardashians with husband, rapper Kanye West, about her risque Met Gala dress.

Quick recap: Kardashian wore a skin-tight nude looking dress to the fashionable event in May, and months later an episode of her reality show revealed Kanye wasn’t happy about the dress, deeming it “too sexy” and that it “affects (him) when pictures are too sexy”.

It didn’t go down well on social media, with many labelling Kanye as controlling.

“You showed a very intimate moment on the show recently where Kanye criticised your Met Gala outfit, he thought it was too sexy, why did you decide to put that on the show?,” Wilkinson asks.

Kardashian revealed the Thierry Mugler outfit was initially supposed to have “nipples”, which was the main component that didn’t sit well with her husband.

“Him and I talked about that and it was something that was important for him to show on the show because that’s where he is in his life,” Kardashian says.

“The one part that it didn’t show is the dress, because it was supposed to be wet looking coming out of the water, it had nipples on it and so he really wanted that taken off, and he had mentioned that a few times because if you wear a wet dress and you were actually coming out of the water you would probably see that, and so we compromised and we took that off the dress.

“But I also think, for me just to show every picture perfect moment of my life is just sort of the Instagram version of the show and my show has never been like that, my show has always been exactly who we are and it’s totally natural that a husband and wife would be in, like, different places in life and have different ideas about things and have disagreements about things like that.

“It’s how you handle it and how you compromise and how you and what comes about that really shapes our relationship.”
