HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR NEXT LAPTOP

There’s a lot to think about when it comes to purchasing a new laptop. Before you buy, here are some key things to consider:

Operating system (OS): Choose between Windows, macOS, or Linux based on your preference and compatibility with required software.

Central Processing Unit (CPU): Look for processors like Intel Core or AMD Ryzen that fit your performance needs. Higher numbers generally mean more power.

Random Acess Memory (RAM): Aim for at least 8GB for basic tasks; 16GB or more for gaming and professional work.

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU): Integrated GPUs are fine for general use; dedicated GPUs from NVIDIA or AMD are better for gaming and creative tasks.

Battery life: Check for a battery life that suits your mobility needs. More powerful laptops usually have a shorter battery.

Storage: Solid State Drives (SSD) offer faster performance than Hard Disk Drives (HDD). Consider at least 256GB of storage and higher for more space.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST LAPTOP DEALS ONLINE

Amazon Australia

Amazon has a good range of Chromebooks and mid-range laptops available, but its best deals are on Apple MacBooks. The online giant has its own official Apple store, which means you can find deals on brand new Apple products you won’t see elsewhere.

See Amazon Australia coupon codes.

The Good Guys

The Good Guys offers discounts across a wide range of laptop brands, including Apple, Microsoft, Dell and Lenovo. There are deals available almost every week but, for the best discounts, we recommend checking what’s available during major sale periods like Black Friday and the end of financial year.

See The Good Guys coupon codes.

HP

HP offers laptop deals most weeks but, over peak sale periods, you can often find discounts of 40-60 per cent off. It also runs great deals on gaming laptops, as well as on desktops, monitors, and printers.

Lenovo

If you’re looking for a Lenovo laptop, the Lenovo online store is naturally the best place to head to. You can frequently find discounts of 40-60 per cent off, with sales often including bestsellers like Lenovo Yoga laptops and the Lenovo Ideapad Slim range.

See Lenovo coupon codes.

Microsoft

The Microsoft Store does offer discounts on its Surface laptop range but, unlike HP and Lenovo, you won’t find deals every week. Instead, you’ll mainly find deals over sale periods like Black Friday and the end of financial year. However, it’s still worth checking stockists like The Good Guys and JB Hi-Fi, as they often have even better discounts than Microsoft itself.

Mwave

If you’re looking for the best gaming laptops, Mwave is a top spot to shop. The retailer runs some of the best gaming laptop deals we see, and has a wide range of models from brands like MSI, ASUS, Razer, and Lenovo.

HOW TO GET THE BEST DEAL ON A NEW LAPTOP

If you’re looking to save on a new laptop, it’s worth shopping around to compare models. Brands like HP and Lenovo frequently offer discounts on a range of laptops and 2-in-1 models, making it worth checking out the sales tab on each individual website.

Third party retailers such as The Good Guys and Bing Lee also run regular sales which include laptops and PCs, so it’s a good idea to sign up to their mailing lists to keep on top of upcoming sales.

Those in the market for an Apple MacBook will find it more difficult to come across a deal, as Apple rarely drops the price of its products. Luckily, an Apple store now exists on Amazon Australia, which means shoppers can find brand new Apple products at prices they won’t get elsewhere.

If you can afford to put off upgrading your laptop a while longer, we also recommend waiting until Black Friday or Boxing Day to shop. Tons of stores now use these events to offer their biggest discounts for the year, making them an ideal time to pick up a laptop on the cheap.
