HOW TO GET THE BEST DEAL ON A NEW TV

If you’re looking to buy a new TV, it’s worth shopping around to find yourself the best price. Retailers such as The Good Guys frequently offer discounts on top-tier models, while online stores like Amazon Australia often run sales on lesser-known brands, making it easy to snap up a more affordable model.

Sales events such as Black Friday and the end of financial year also see retailers slash prices on popular TVs. If you can afford to wait, we recommend checking out these sales as they often see some massive price drops on models from big name brands.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LED, OLED AND QLED?

OLED TVs are great if you want the best picture quality and don’t mind splurging on a pricier model, while LED models are for savvy shoppers who want something that’s budget friendly and available in a wide range of screen sizes. QLED TVs are a middle ground, although sits closer to OLED TVs in terms of image quality.

If you typically watch your favourite movies and shows in a dark room, an OLED TV is better at producing deep blacks and high contrast, while QLED TVs are the way to go for bright rooms and daytime viewing.

LED TV

LED stands for light-emitting diode, which is essentially tiny bulbs that produce light and colour. This type of TV is perfect if you’re wanting a budget friendly option and don’t want to be limited to the smaller screen sizes.

OLED TV

OLED TVs (Organic Light Emitting Diode Televisions) have individual pixels that can be self-lit without a separate backlight, which results in deep black blacks and fantastic contrast as well as very slim designs.

QLED TV

According to Samsung, QLED TVs are Quantum dot LED TVs that use a totally different type of technology than regular LED models. Instead of tiny bulbs, they use ‘quantum dots’ which are capable of producing precise coloured light for incredible picture quality. They tend to be better at emitting bright and vibrant colours compared to OLED screens, and are ideal if you typically use the TV during the daytime or in bright rooms.
