HOW DO COOLING MATTRESS TOPPERS WORK?
Cooling mattress toppers can work in two different ways, according to homewares senior buyer at Myer, Jess Gavin.
One option is a wool mattress topper – it has natural breathability properties that work all year round, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
“Unlike other fibres, wool is an active fibre that reacts to changes in the body temperature,” Ms Gavin said.
The second option is cooling fabric technologies which can work in one of two ways.
One type works the same as moisture-wicking technology in activewear where the moisture from your sweat is absorbed away from the body.
The second type is temperature-regulating technology, commonly found in heat-absorbing and releasing microbeads.
“It absorbs and stores excess body heat when we’re too hot, and then releases it back to us when we become cold,” Ms Gavin said.
