Richard Pusey makes outlandish claim in court about Kylie Moore-Gilbert

Notorious Porsche driver Richard Pusey has likened his situation behind bars to that of an Iranian prison during his latest bizarre court appearance – his second in as many days.

A pigtailed Pusey was beamed into Sunshine Magistrates’ Court for the second day in a row to face a contest mention over allegations he posted an image of a dead police officer on a Google review of a Melbourne Porsche dealership.

Pusey was due to apply for bail over the charges on Tuesday but the hearing was adjourned after the millionaire mortgage broker claimed he had not received crucial material from the prosecution.

During Tuesday’s appearance he invoked the words of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky, stating “freedom must be armed no worse than tyranny”.

And on Wednesday he referenced Dr Kylie Moore-Gilbert, saying the jailed Melbourne academic would “find it difficult to distinguish the difference between the Australian and Iranian justice systems”.

Dr Moore-Gilbert spent 804 days in a Tehran prison, accused of being a spy.

Pusey, with his hair tied up in the same yellow ribbons as he wore on Tuesday, claimed he had 18 months worth of policy reading ahead of him as he represents himself in his latest matters.

Prosecutors allege Pusey used his own email address and phone number when posting the offensive image of the deceased officer from the scene of the horror Eastern Freeway crash in April 2020 to the Google review and Australian Financial Complaints Authority.

The court heard Pusey had requested traffic footage from the freeway on the afternoon of the crash which killed four police officers as part of his defence – a request Magistrate Andrew Capell denied.

“I see absolutely no relevance to this matter,” Mr Capell said.

Mr Capell also denied a request from Pusey for CCTV footage from the QT Hotel in Melbourne’s CBD from 2018.

Pusey was seen wandering around the prison room during the hearing and at one point held up a written sign to the video camera which read: ‘Me no hear you’, before the connection cut out.

A two-day contested hearing of the matter was scheduled for August.
