Tensions within the Mongols outlaw motorcycle gang have escalated amid concerns of retribution attacks following the expulsion of key members, including Toby Mitchell.

The prominent bikie gang met on Tuesday evening at their Port Melbourne headquarters for the first time since new leadership took over earlier this month.

Sources close to the gang said the club had shed more members, with some bikies voluntarily handing in their patches.

Those said to have left the gang were from the Port Melbourne, Coburg and Echuca chapters.

There is speculation the power takeover could have serious consequences within Melbourne’s underworld.

A well-placed source claimed the Mongols are bracing for potential retaliation attacks.

“Those that remain are either scared to show alliance with ex-members, or have been forced to carry out shift work keeping lookout in preparation for alleged retaliation from the booted trio,” the source said.

Among those booted in the leadership takeover were Toby Mitchell, Mark Balsillie and Sam Abdulrahim.

New national president Nick “The Knife” Forbes is said to have adopted a cold-blooded leadership style and will be looking to boot anyone aligned with Mitchell.

“He is cleaning out the Melbourne chapter,” a source said.

“He is ruthless.”

Forbes is supported by sergeant-at-arms Phillip Main and national vice president Tyrone Bell, who is one of Melbourne’s longest serving gang members.

The Herald Sun understands the recent internal upheaval has had enormous international consequences, with members from Russia and Ukraine chapters walking away from the gang because of the rancour.

Toby Mitchell has shared a series of cryptic posts on social media since leaving the club.

One was: “Normalise not feeling guilty for walking away when you feel bad energy, bullshit, weird vibes and sneaky shit”.

On Sunday night Mitchell posted: “Just because no moves are being posted doesn’t mean no moves are being made … remember that.”

He also posted: “The best revenge is letting people see they ain’t stop shit.”
