Putting the squeeze on Victoria’s movers, shakers and headline makers
The man who founded Sexpo has announced he will rescue our nation from a terrible erotic indignity.
David Ross - known in some circles as “Mr Sexpo” - on Thursday revealed SexEx would replace the long-running event he came up with three decades ago.
It was announced last September that Sexpo - which was by then being operated by another group - was being indefinitely postponed.
It later went into liquidation.
Mr Ross has stepped in with SexEx, to run at the Melbourne Pavilion from September 12 to 14, which he says will be just like Sexpo, only better.
“If Australia were to be left without an adult lifestyle exhibition, we would be the only inhabited continent not to have such an event, an unacceptable situation,” he said.
Mr Ross said SexEx would be a three-day public event focused on adult lifestyles and sexuality.
It would allow “open-minded adults, and those wanting to expand their horizons, to access all the products, services and information they may need to enjoy a healthy sex life.”
“It’s a place for fun and celebration where visitors will enjoy world-class entertainment while surrounded by like-minded adults, all with an affordable entry fee that reflects the mainstream appeal of the event,” Mr Ross said.
Mr Ross, who founded Sexpo in 1996 and later exported it to the UK and South Africa, promised to bring all of his “sexpertise” to the fore.
“Visitors can be sure that my many years’ experience running the Sexpo events will see me produce this new event in the same flavour as I did in the glory days of the early Sexpo events when up to 68,000 people flocked to the MCEC to see the latest and greatest offerings from the adult entertainment industry and supporting businesses,” he said.
Mr Ross, whose involvement with Sexpo ceased in 2019, said despite its name, the new event would not just be centred on sex.
Spa pool sales, glamour photography studios, women’s fashion and accessories, hair and makeup artists, body piercers, massage and beauty therapists, tattooists, swimwear & lingerie would also be exhibitors,
National tour dates for next year will be announced later.
