The Source: Southern Cross Austereo to host the most awkward get-together in history of radio
When Southern Cross Austereo — owner of Triple M — booked in their industry night for Thursday February 27, they couldn’t have predicted this.

Southern Cross Austereo will roll out the red carpet at an invite-only event for industry bigwigs and advertisers in Melbourne on Thursday night.
And while their marquee broadcasters are well paid to talk the talk, The Source is expecting radio silence on matters regarding a controversial ex-host: Marty Sheargold.
Sheargold exited his Triple M gig on Wednesday after making disgraceful comments on air about the national women’s football team, The Matildas.
Sheargold apologised for the crude remarks, adding he and the Triple M network had “mutually agreed to part ways.”
The Triple M network is part of the SCA family.
In a statement confirming Sheargold’s departure, SCA chief content officer Dave Cameron said the station “takes its responsibility to listeners, shareholders and clients seriously.”
Awkwardly, those “shareholders” and “clients” will make up most of the audience at SCA’s 2025 launch event in Melbourne on Thursday night.
The event is billed as a “party” with SCA’s “biggest stars” and a sneak peek at what the network has “in store for advertisers.”
According to party invites sent out on February 3, Triple M’s Mick Molloy, Nick Riewoldt and Titus O’Reily, and Fox FM’s Fifi Box, Brendan Fevola and Nick Cody were scheduled to appear at the soiree.
But SCA suddenly pulled all on-air talent from the shindig on Thursday afternoon.
Box and Sheargold co-hosted Triple M’s Shebang from 2006 to 2008, and Mick co-headlined a comedy tour with Marty, Sam Pang and Lawrence Mooney.
If guests at the SCA event were expecting commentary from Marty’s mates, the microphone — for now — is off.
