It turns out Mick Molloy is a vault when it comes to keeping radio secrets.
Titus O’Reily, who will co-host the Triple M Melbourne breakfast show with Molloy next year, has told how Molloy kept his cards close to his chest over the high profile Melbourne role.
O’Reily has been a regular guest on Molloy’s radio shows since the days of Kennedy Molloy and also co-hosts a podcast with him.
When O’Reily asked Molloy several months ago if he would be taking up the Melbourne Triple M gig, Molloy gave nothing away.
“Mick would not say anything,” O’Reily told the Swanny and Friends podcast.
“He is actually weirdly professional about some things. For someone who is known as being not professional, if he needs a secret he won’t say it, especially if it is a commercial secret.”
O’Reily said he “kind of suspected” Triple M would bring Molloy into Melbourne breakfast after Marty Sheargold suddenly quit the shift mid-year.
“A few times I had said (to him) they must be thinking about it,” he said.
“He was like ‘No mate, don’t know.’
“Then one day he calls me in and we have this forty minute meeting … and then he goes ‘I have got something to tell you, I am coming back to Melbourne to do breakfast radio … so you will be involved, yeah?’.
“And I go ‘Yeah’.”
Molloy’s show featuring O’Reily, Nick Riewoldt and Rosie Walton will air 6am-9am weekdays from January 20.
