Nick Riewoldt has locked down another Melbourne gig after his return from the US, with the former St Kilda champion to join Triple M’s breakfast show alongside Mick Molloy.
With the world seemingly at his feet with a high paying gig at Fox Footy and word of moving into a lifestyle role in Channel 7, the former St Kilda skipper abruptly left for Texas to be with family in late 2022.
Cue the rumour mill going into overdrive, with plenty of theories as to why he exited when it looked like he had it all.
Was there more to the move to follow his young family to his wife Cath’s native Texas?
Any footy media follower might say there was.
But Riewoldt is returning with his new Triple M gig to go with a footy commentary role on Channel 7, although tongues may start wagging if he does too many interstate games.
Triple M announced on Friday Riewoldt will be joining the rebranded Triple M breakfast show, Mick in the Morning.
The show will feature the station’s former Hot Breakfast host and radio stalwart Mick Molloy, Titus O’Reilly and another for Hot Breakfast alumni, Rosie Walton.
It looks like Dale Thomas, a footy media favourite who was filling in on the Triple M breakfast show after former host Marty Sheargold announced he had had enough, was dropped in the shuffle.
“After two rewarding years in Houston, Texas with Cath’s family, I’m excited to be returning home to Melbourne joining Mick and the Triple M Breakfast team back where it all started for me on radio,” Riewoldt said.
On his return to Melbourne radio, Molloy said: “I’m excited to be back behind the mic in my hometown, talking about all things Melbourne, with some of my favourite people every morning. There’s a fair chance that the Tigers may come up from time to time; what could possibly go wrong?”
Molloy who was working on Triple M in Sydney, will kick off the new Mick in the Morning with Roo, Titus & Rosie on 20 January 2025.
The show will go up against Nova’s Jase & Lauren, GOLD FM’s The Christian O’Connell Show, FOX FM’s Fifi Fev and Nick KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O.
