Labor ‘getting really nervous’ about losing key seats, election-fixer Glenn Druery says

Election fixer Glenn Druery dishes the dirt on the seats Labor insiders fear they’ll lose in the party's heartland. See the list.

Final days of state election campaign overshadowed by integrity issues

Secret Labor intel shared with election-fixer Glenn Druery shows the party fears losing up to three seats to independents in Melbourne’s west, as well as seats to the Liberals in the city’s southeast and northeast.

In a bombshell leaked video of Mr Druery explaining to Angry Victorians Party representatives how he can “control” the outcomes of upper house seats, the controversial consultant says that during negotiations with Labor late last month, the party was “getting really nervous” about a handful of seats in the lower house.

He said those seats included Werribee, Point Cook and Melton in the western suburbs, which are being targeted by independents.

Other seats Labor told him were in need of preference deals were Ripon in Western Victoria, Cranbourne in Melbourne’s southeast, and Yan Yean in Melbourne’s northeast, which were leaning towards the Liberal Party.

Mr Druery says in the November 1 video that at the time, the deals with Labor were a “work in progress”.

“They are getting really nervous and they are prepared to throw their own upper house members under the bus to save lower house members,” he says.

He also says the ALP “will throw things out to see how you react” including by saying there would be preferences given to the Greens in some regions.

“I didn’t react well,” he says.

“My response was if you are going to kill two of mine … I’ll decide which two of yours I’m going to kill.

“They didn’t like that, what they expected me to say ‘all right, I’ll bend over and just f*** me and then you can give me a pat on the cheek and do what you want.”

Mr Druery says in the video that Labor was more difficult to deal with on preferences compared to the Liberal Party, which minor parties could get “for free” – meaning without having to trade much in return preferences.

“You won’t get Labor for free, you have got to buy Labor, that’s how you buy it. I don’t mean with cash, right, you trade to get it,” he says.

Mr Druery also goes into detail about negotiations with former Liberal president Michael Kroger in 2018, including when the party veteran “cracked the shits” over deals Mr Druery was doing with Labor.

“In the past I have never really hunted the Libs down because I know I’m going to get them for free. And that’s made a lot of people say ‘oh he’s just a tool of the Left’. No, I’m just a tool of wanting to win.”
