TWO months after the Victorian state election, the Liberal Party finally claimed the seat of Narracan securing over 45 per cent of votes.

Voters in the West Gippsland seat of Narracan headed to polling booths on Saturday after the Victorian Electoral Commission delayed the count following the death of Nationals candidate Shaun Gilchrist just days before the November 26 election.

The Liberal Party’s Wayne Farnham has won the seat, taking the reins from the retiring Liberal MP Gary Blackwood, continuing the party’s longevity in the seat.

Farnham edged out Greens candidate Alyssa Weaver (11.6 per cent) and independent Tony Wolfe (10 per cent) to claim the victory eight weeks after the state election was decided.

Opposition leader John Pesutto said Mr Farnham would have his community’s most pressing issues as his priority.

“Wayne has been a loud advocate for local issues such as the much-needed West Gippsland Hospital, and has proven he will work tirelessly in the interest of his local community,” he said on Saturday.

“He brings with him a wealth of knowledge and I look forward to working closely with him over the next four years.”
