Jase and Lauren breakfast radio show starts on Nova 100

Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips have made a triumphant return to the airwaves after their brutal axing, with Hawkins saying Melbourne “deserves better” than a show from Sydney.

After hitting rock bottom, Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips have made a triumphant return to the airwaves.

The pair, who were brutally dumped from their KIIS FM breakfast show last year, returned to Nova 100 radio on Friday morning as the new era of Jase & Lauren began.

“I realised how many people lost their routine in the morning as well in this city that listened to us,’’ Phillips reflected.

“And we’re so grateful for those listeners, who showed us support in a time where we felt like, I think we all probably hit rock bottom for a couple of days there where we didn’t know what we were going to do with our lives … would we have jobs next year, will we be able to pay our mortgage.

“Which by the way, we’re not the first and we won’t be the last people to experience that in this industry. But there’s a lot of people who have ridden that wave of losing their jobs recently in the current climate. And I think the power of having people to support you, and to remind you that you just keep pushing, just keep going, you’ll get there, was really reassuring for all of us.”

Phillips and Hawkins were joined again by Clint Stanaway.

Hawkins said it was a hard pill to swallow being replaced by Kyle and Jackie O who are based in Sydney.

“My issue was not that it was happening,’’ he said.

“It was how it was handled. And not just for us, but everyone that worked on the show, everyone who worked at the station. And I think the real sting was that we’re being replaced by a show that are networking from Sydney, which Melbourne deserves better.

“It’s the best job in the world. I’ve always said to you guys it is so rare to get a show where the hosts are absolute great mates and have each others’ backs.

“We’re not going anywhere. I said to the management here, I’ll die on this station. I hate moving, no more.”

Meanwhile the much anticipated Melbourne debut of Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson will be announced on Tuesday next week.

The Sydney based pair will finally announce when they will be syndicating their Kyle and Jackie O show on KIIS FM, after delays and months of speculation.

Kyle and Jackie O, who signed a mega 10 year deal worth $200m, said their delay has been due to a new studio yet to be completed. They finished up in their old studios on Friday and will be in their new state-of-the art facilities from Monday.

There were suggestions their syndication was still up to six weeks away, with the powerhouse duo to reveal their date at 8am on Tuesday — and it will be in late April.

Sandilands’ rival Hawkins had a dig at Sandilands on the Today show this week.

“The talk is when they’re going to start and if it keeps going on like this, my concern is Kyle could be dead or casting from a retirement home,’’ he said.

Sandilands has come out all guns blazing, accusing other stations of being scared of their entry into the Melbourne market.
