‘The sh***est show in Melbourne’: Kyle Sandilands’ tirade against Jase and Lauren

KIIS FM’s Kyle Sandilands has let rip with an extraordinary tirade against Nova radio rivals Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips as the breakfast radio battle hots up.

KIIS king Kyle Sandilands has launched an extraordinary tirade at new Nova100 breakfast hosts Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips describing their yet to launch show as the “sh***est in Melbourne.”

Sandilands let fly with his potty mouthed toddler tantrum on his KIIS Sydney breakfast show on Thursday, revealing his grand plan to have the Kyle and Jackie O Show networked not just into Melbourne, but nationally.

He claimed all Melbourne breakfast radio shows were running scared at his pending arrival in the market, but saved his most savage comments for the Jase and Lauren Show, which starts on Friday.

“Melbourne, I can’t wait to go there. I can’t wait for the whole show to go completely national live,” Sandilands said.

“All the Melbourne stations, they are all circling the wagons.

“They keep telling everyone in the press, ‘Aw yeah, we are not worried.’ They are sh***ing themselves and I don’t blame them. I am not here to come second.

“There is a lot of chat down in Melbourne (about) the breakfast show that we are replacing (on KIIS Melbourne), Jase and Lauren, quite a good show, but it only ever rated fifth or, I think, fourth, so it was not making any money.

“So what did Nova do? Nova fired their breakfast show which was the worst rating show in Melbourne and bought the fourth worst show in Melbourne and Jase and Lauren are going there.

“We could really care less, this show will dominate regardless.”

Fact check: The Jase and Lauren Show held a 9 per cent share of the Melbourne breakfast audience, making it the city’s second most listened to FM breakfast show, in the final ratings survey of 2023.

Sounding like a grumpy bear with a sore head, Sandilands continued his rant, describing Hawkins as having been his “personal slave” when they worked and lived together in the early 2000s and calling Jase and Lauren co-host Clint Stanaway a “flog” and deliberately mispronouncing his name.

But he did confirm he considered Hawkins a friend.

“Don’t forget Jase was my protégé,” he said.

“I taught him everything he knows. A lot of slave work was also part of that protégé scheme. He had to live with me and I did treat him like a personal slave.

“They put that other flop from the Weekend Today show, he is going to read their news over at Nova. So what is his name Cl*t, Cl*t, Cl*t Stowaway?

“Well good luck to them. It is the sh***est show in Melbourne and that is why it got replaced (on KIIS).

Sandilands said Fox FM’s Brendan Fevola (left) dressed like he was mowing the lawn.

“Yes, he (Hawkins) is my friend, but it is not my fault that he can’t get the ratings, so they have gone to Nova to die on the vine like all the Nova shows.”

Fox FM and Brendan Fevola did not escape Sandilands’ spray.

“Fox FM are being very quiet on the air, but (is) panicked behind the scenes, which gives me a little thrill,” he said.

“The funny thing (is) because all the stations thought we were going to start in January, they spent all their marketing money. The Fev guy, he looks like he is mowing the yard on a Saturday.”
