Sydney radio duo Kyle and Jackie O are on the verge of signing a new mega 10-year deal which some experts believe will include broadcasting live out of Melbourne next year.

A breakfast juggernaut for ARN in Sydney, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie Henderson, have made no secret of their desire to go national.

In August rumours swirled about their entry into the Melbourne market when Brendan Fevola dropped the speculation on his FOX FM breakfast show.

Currently in Melbourne on KIIS FM are Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips who have steadily climbed in the ratings over the past two years.

Hawkins angrily hit back at Fevola’s claims, but on Monday on Channel 7’s The Morning Show, commentator Peter Ford said the move was a done deal.

“They are staying with the ARN network and generally in show business nobody is irreplaceable but the network could not afford to let Kyle and Jackie walk away,’’ Ford said.

“The other thing is they will be live into Melbourne as of next year. There’s always been a belief that you can’t do breakfast radio networked because you need to have those local elements — traffic weather etc — but they have ways around it.

“There’s an interesting little sidebar story here because they will be replacing Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips on the breakfast show and Jase and Kyle used to flat together.

“A couple of weeks ago Jase rang him and he said there’s no deal in place. But there is and it will be officially be announced in a couple of weeks time. It would certainly shake up the FM radio stations.”

Hawkins became emotional when talking about the situation in August. He responded to Fevola’s comments.

“I’ve got nothing against Fev, never met the guy, I guarantee I’ve said stupid stuff on the air as well, but let’s think before we speak,’’ Hawkins said.

“Pull your head in, it was a grub move and just low ball. I love this industry, let’s look out for each other in it. I just want to clear it up because it was spiralling out of hand and I felt so bad for our team and family members yesterday.”

ARN declined to comment on Monday.
