Triple M’s Marty Sheargold on personal leave from his radio show

Southern Cross Austereo has released a statement revealing why Triple M breakfast host and comedian Marty Sheargold has been absent.

Triple M breakfast has been rocked by host Marty Sheargold taking time away from the show.

Sheargold was missing from his namesake show last week with anchor Troy Ellis addressing his absence on Friday revealing the star was on personal leave.

Triple M’s parent company Southern Cross Austereo released a statement on Saturday, saying Sheargold was prioritising his family.

“Marty is taking personal leave to spend some more time with family. He will be back on air again soon,” the statement read.

Melbourne-based Sheargold’s loyal producer Loren Barry was in Sydney on Saturday night as one of the hosts of the Australian Commercial Radio & Audio (ACRA) Awards.

She said Sheargold would be back, assuring the show’s listeners that “everything is fine.

“He is just taking some time, he is just spending some time with his family, but we are all good,” Barry said.

“Everything is fine. We will be back.

“Working in breakfast radio you just get really tired. It is a very tiring job.”

The Marty Sheargold Show rated 5.8 in the most recent radio survey, placing it in eighth spot in the Melbourne breakfast radio market.

Sheargold’s absence from the Triple M studio last week has been a talking point in radio circles.

He was spotted at the AFL Grand Final at the end of September and was on air the week after, but was missing in recent days.

He is a semi-regular guest on the Channel 10 show Have You Been Paying Attention, is in the cast of the hit ABC comedy Fisk, and was part of a sold out stand up comedy tour earlier this year with Sam Pang, Mick Molloy and Lawrence Mooney.

Barry said Sheargold’s Triple M breakfast show had a very loyal fan base with listeners loving being in Sheargold’s audio “clubhouse.”

“We have found a really nice groove lately, (since we) came back after the September break, we have all settled into our characters really well,” she said.

“We have made this clubhouse, that is Marty’s big thing, and we have very, very loyal listeners which I think is really important.”
